Role: Speaker · 2023 · Colombo · Organiser: Isipathana College & Thurstan College
The 49th edition of the Big Debate between Isipathana College and Thurstan College marked a particularly memorable chapter in Isipathana's debating history and a defining moment in my own debating journey.
Having served as Captain of the Isipathana College English Debate Team since 2020, the occasion carried a significance far beyond the competition itself. It was my final debate as captain, bringing to a close a journey shaped by years of preparation, intellectual challenges, teamwork, perseverance and the responsibility of leading a team of passionate young debaters.
Taking the floor for one final time against Thurstan College, I had the privilege of representing my school and leading the team through the 49th edition of this longstanding inter-school debating rivalry. The encounter concluded with a victory for Isipathana College, making the occasion an especially fitting end to my tenure as captain.
More than just a debating victory, it was a moment of reflection on the journey, the people who contributed to it and the legacy of the team I had the privilege of leading. It was a final opportunity to stand behind the podium, represent Isipathana and do what I had loved doing since the beginning of my debating journey.
